One image ONLY - Do not upload multiple images even if there is room for more than one.

Image must be .jpg or .tiff and about 1 mb even if it tells you later it can be several types of files and can be 100mb.  System fields we can't change.

Please be patient with us. It will save us literally thousands of dollars and hundreds of data entry hours if we can upload directly to our own webpage. I understand this is a new process and I personally will help anyone who needs help to upload their image. Linda A Doll, President. 

If you have problems with your entry or upload, call Linda at (424) 225-4966.  Mon-Sat from 10am to 4pm PST. Please do not call the gallery as there is no one there to help you.

Please try to enter online if possible. Ask a friend, child or grandchild to help you if you need help. 

For those who have no one to help them, we have hired an outside data entry person. You can mail your cd/dvd, your entry fee, your entry form along with an additional check for $10 for processing payable to Rebecca Veytia, 1927 South Tremont Street #B, Oceanside, CA 92054.  

Things Needed to Complete Entry Process

Digital Image: (the one you upload) must be named with your last name, then an underline, then first name. Example: Doll_Linda.jpg. If your image is not named correctly we will have no way of knowing which image belongs to which artist. 

Digital Image: must be between1200 and 1500 pixels on the longest side. We don't care about the short side. File should be approximately 1 MB. 

PURPOSE: The National Watercolor Society presents the best of water media painting, representing a wide range of directions and technique, from experimental to traditional, and encourages support for watercolor as a vital, enduring and expressive medium. 

Please note:  No painting that has been "juried" into and exhibited in a National or International Exhibit is eligible.  A National or International Exhibit is any exhibit that accepts entries from National & International Artists with no requirement of organizational membership or state residency.

AWARDS JUROR: Jean Stern has been the executive director of The Irvine Museum since its inception in 1992. An art historian and a recognized authority on California Impressionism, he has extensive experience as an author, curator, lecturer, and teacher.

He has taught art history at Mesa College, in San Diego, and at San Diego State University. He was executive director of Petersen Galleries, in Beverly Hills, from 1979 to 1991.

He is the author of numerous books and articles on California art, including monographs on important artists such Franz A. Bischoff, Alson S. Clark, Sam Hyde Harris and Elsie Palmer Payne. He has written essays for numerous books and museum exhibition catalogues, such as all three PLEIN
AIR PAINTERS of CALIFORNIA series of books; GUY ROSE: American Impressionist; ENCHANTED ISLE: A History of Painting on Santa Catalina Island; CALIFORNIA: This Golden Land of Promise (co-authored with Joan Irvine Smith) and FRANZ A. BISCHOFF: The Life and Art of an American Master, published in 2010. His latest book, CALIFORNIA LIGHT: One Hundred Years of the California Art Club (co-authored with Molly Siple) was published in 2011 by Rizzoli International Publications, NY, to positive critical revue.

FEE: $40 for non-members and $25 for members. 

DEADLINE: August 2, 2014 at 6:00 pm is the deadline for submission.  The system will not accept entries not completed before 6:00 pm

Rules & Regulations: You must click the Agree Buttons on the entry form to confirm you agree to all the rules and regulations below.

The 2014 Annual Exhibition is open to all artists. Paintings must be primarily water-based media on a paper surface (Yupo & Tyvek lightly varnished are permitted). Other media, if used, must be in conjunction with the water media. The water media must be the dominant element. No digital media, photography, prints or reproductions may be used anywhere in the painting. No work that has been previously juried into "any" national or international show may be entered. Work must have been completed within the last two years. Paintings done in a class or workshop setting may not be submitted. Source material must be original and not derived from any published images

SALES AND LIABILITY: All work MUST be for sale. The National Watercolor Society is responsible for all sales and will retain a 30% commission. Although the utmost care will be taken in handling paintings and shipping containers, NWS and its representatives cannot be responsible for damage or loss, whatever the cause. Artists should carry their own insurance. There will be no price changes after acceptance in the 2014 ANNUAL Exhibition.

FRAMING LIMITATIONS: Minimum Image Size: 9" x 12". Maximum Frame Size: 40" x 40". The frame must be simple but sturdy enough to support the artwork without buckling the Plexiglas. No glass will be accepted. Diptychs and triptychs must be mounted within a single frame. The painting must be ready for hanging with wire and secured under rigid Plexiglas. No saw tooth hangers. Mats, if used, must be a white or light neutral color unless an integral part of the artwork.

AGREEMENT: Submission of this image, if accepted by the Jury of Selection, shall constitute an Agreement on the part of the artist to comply with the conditions set forth in this Prospectus, including the following: 

I hereby release and discharge the officers of National Watercolor Society (NWS) and its representatives and employees from any and all claims occasioned by damage or loss of said painting while in the possession of NWS. 

No work previously juried into any NATIONAL OR INTERNATIONAL EXHIBIT is eligible. A national or international exhibit is any exhibition open nationally or internationally to all artists with no membership  or state residency requirement.  

No work accepted for the Annual Exhibition may be withdrawn prior to the close of the exhibition.

Permission to reproduce the painting in the catalog of the exhibition and for publicity purposes is granted.

Permission to use this image for educational and promotional purposes is granted.

I realize if my work is selected and I withdraw, or it does not meet eligibility requirements set forth in the prospectus including that it has not been juried into any National or International Exhibit, I will be "disqualified immediately" and any award given will be rescinded and I will not be permitted to enter again for 2 years.

NOTIFICATION: Artists whose submissions are accepted in the initial jurying process will receive instructions for shipping and delivery.  Accepted artists list will be posted on our website by August 20. Acceptance Information pdf will be emailed by August 20, 2014.

Awards:
More than $40,000 in cash and merchandise awards will be given.
